Found a lost item with a find1 on it? Here's how to get it back to its owner — no account, no app, and no cost.
I found something — start here
Scan the tag or enter its 8-character code to reach the owner in seconds.
Free for finders — no account or app needed.
Why can't I see the owner's details?
find1's PrivacyGuard keeps an owner's personal info private — you can still reach them in seconds.
Getting started
I found something with a find1 — what do I do?
Scan the QR code on the tag, or type its 8-character code on the home page. You'll be taken straight to the owner so you can let them know their item has been found — there's nothing to sign up for.
Do I need an account, an app, or to pay anything?
No. Looking up a tag and contacting the owner is completely free and works in any web browser — nothing to install, no sign-up, and you're never asked to pay.
The QR code won't scan.
Wipe the tag, try again in good light, and hold your camera steady a few inches away. If it still won't scan, just type the 8-character code printed on the tag on the home page.
The code isn't working.
Tag codes are exactly 8 characters and never use the letters O, I, L, Q or the digits 0, 1. Check for look-alike characters and try again. If it still doesn't work, the tag may not be registered yet, or the owner may have turned it off.
Reaching the owner & returning the item
How do I contact the owner?
Once you look up the tag you'll either see the owner's contact details or a button to message them. Send a short note letting them know you've found their item — they're notified by email and can reply right on that page.
Why can't I see the owner's name, phone, or email?
Many owners turn on PrivacyGuard, which hides their personal details while still letting you reach them through a private message. It protects their privacy — and yours.
How do I arrange the return?
Sort out the details in the conversation: where and when to meet, or how to post it back. How you hand the item over is entirely between you and the owner.
Can I write in my own language?
Yes. Choose your language from the switcher at the top of the page, then write normally — we translate messages between you and the owner for you.
The owner hasn't replied yet.
Owners are notified by email but may not be near their phone, so give it a little time. Keep this page open or rescan the tag later to check for a reply. If it's urgent and you can't keep the item, hand it in to a nearby lost-and-found — for example the airport, hotel, or venue where you found it.
How do I get back to the conversation later?
Rescan the same tag (or reopen the link) and you'll return to your conversation on the same device, even after you've closed the tab.
Your privacy & safety
Is this safe? Is it a scam?
find1 is a lost-and-found service. You'll never be asked to pay a fee to return an item, or to share a password or payment details. If a message ever asks for anything like that, don't do it — email us instead.
What will the owner see about me?
Only what you choose to share. You can message the owner anonymously; sharing your location or a way to reach you is optional and never happens automatically.
Do I have to share my location or contact details?
No. Those are optional — they just make meeting up easier. Skip them and you can still return the item while staying anonymous.
What happens to my information?
We only use it to help reunite the item with its owner. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.
